Cavaliers Battle, Come Up Short Late Against Kilgore

Cavaliers Battle, Come Up Short Late Against Kilgore

Bossier City, LA — An aggressive start and fast-paced offense pushed the Cavaliers to an 11-point first-half lead Wednesday night, with BPCC maintaining control through much of the opening period and taking a five-point lead into halftime. Kilgore College turned up the pressure in the second half, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and closing on a 17–7 run to pull away for a 72–62 win. The loss moves the Cavaliers to 8–9 overall and 2–7 in conference play. Head Coach Jeff Moore remains encouraged by the effort and resilience of his young squad, which features 12 freshmen on the roster.

“I thought we started the game with great energy and moved the ball really well,” said Moore. “In the second half, Kilgore turned up the defensive pressure, which led to turnovers and second-chance opportunities. We’re close to getting over the hump…our players compete extremely hard, and I love coaching this group. In this league, it’s always about moving on to the next one with the right mindset.”

The Cavaliers had several standout performances Wednesday night. Sophomore Mazin Lumori led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Zequan Lewis followed with 19 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Drew Cooper contributed on the glass with seven rebounds to go along with eight points.

With winter weather forcing Saturday’s road game to be moved to March, the Cavaliers now turn their full focus to the next challenge. BPCC returns home January 28 to host Tyler Junior College, looking to avenge a 91–71 loss from earlier this month.
