Men’s Basketball: Second-Half Surge Lifts Cavaliers to 90-77 Region XIV Victory

BOSSIER CITY, La. – Bossier Parish Community College used a dominant second-half surge to power past Lamar State College-Port Arthur, 90-77, in a Region XIV matchup Wednesday night at home. The Cavaliers trailed 43-36 at halftime but quickly seized control when play resumed. With renewed energy, BPCC converted defensive stops into consistent offense, and from that point on, the game belonged to the Cavaliers through the final buzzer.

Tony Montgomery and Drew Cooper led the charge with matching 25-point performances. Montgomery added five assists and five rebounds, while Cooper filled the stat sheet with three assists, four rebounds and two steals. Dustin Welch contributed 18 points and three rebounds, and Darnell Morris added six points and five rebounds in the win. As a team, the Cavaliers delivered one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season. BPCC shot 55 percent (32-of-58) from the field and knocked down a season-high 17 three-pointers on 34 attempts. They also converted 9-of-12 free throws (75 percent).

Head Coach Jeff Moore praised his team’s collective effort following the game.

“It was a great team win at home,” Moore said. “We were really connected as a team. We had players really step up off the bench and as a whole we knocked down open shots. We talked about this the last couple days — we are not here to compete with each other but to complete each other as a team. Looking forward to a great crowd on Saturday for sophomore night.”

With the win, BPCC moves to 10-17 overall and 4-15 in Region XIV play. The Cavaliers will wrap up their home schedule Saturday at 4pm against Blinn College. Prior to tipoff, BPCC will honor its sophomore class: Stafford Bailey, Cooper Childers, and Mazin Lumori.
