The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers delivered a statement performance Wednesday, snapping No. 11 Galveston College's 17-game winning streak with a 6–5 victory in Game 2 to split a doubleheader with the nationally ranked Whitecaps.
BPCC dropped the opener 4–2 despite out-hitting Galveston 6–5 and playing error-free defense. Christina Gegg led the Cavaliers offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate and drove in both BPCC runs. In the circle, Clélia Costes worked 5 2/3 innings and struck out four while keeping the Whitecaps within reach throughout the contest.
The Lady Cavaliers responded in Game 2 with an energetic performance, securing a 6–5 win behind timely hitting and key plays in critical moments. BPCC jumped out early with a three-run first inning and added another run in the third to build momentum.
After the game tightened late, the Cavaliers broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when a wild pitch allowed the go-ahead run to score. Morgan Faunce followed with an RBI single to add an insurance run that proved to be the difference. Faunce led the middle of the lineup with two RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Leadoff hitter Mackenzie Gaspard sparked the offense with three hits, and Juliana Bosco added a multi-hit performance as BPCC totaled 13 hits in the win.
The Cavaliers also continued their strong defensive play, including turning a key double play. In the circle, Sydney Millea got the start for BPCC, while Katy Allen provided key relief to help close out the victory and secure the win over the nationally ranked Whitecaps.
With the split, BPCC improves to 16–8 overall on the season. The Lady Cavaliers will return to action Friday at home against Lamar State College–Port Arthur (4–10). First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2pm.
