Missed free throws in overtime doom Lady Cavaliers as they fall 85-80 to LSU Eunice

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Six missed free throws in overtime doomed the Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavaliers as the fell 85-50 to in-state rival LSU Eunice Wednesday at the Coach Billy Montgomery Gymnasium.

After BPCC's Savannah Robertson sank three straight pressure free throws with 0.2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 72, the Lady Cavaliers would miss six free throws in the extra period which cost them an opportunity to pull out a win. Instead, the Lady Bengals made their free throws in overtime and escaped with the victory.

Poor free throw shooting doomed the Lady Cavaliers all game long as they shot just 50 percent (15-30) from the free throw line. Meanwhile, LSUE shot 70 percent (28-40) from the line. The two teams combined for 50 fouls and 43 turnovers in a very sloppy game.

LSUE guard Brooklyn Fontenot led all scorers with 23 points despite connecting on just 6-of-20 shots from the floor and 1-for-10 from beyond the arc. However, she was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Four other Lady Bengals reached double figures, including Trastasia Hester who scored 17 points, Tanisha Hester and Chelsey White added 14 points and Alona Washington chipped in with 11.

Freshman forward Faith Robinson continued her fantastic play as she led BPCC with 18 points and 16 rebounds. It was Robinson's third consecutive double-double, and third in four games. Tarondia Harold with 11 points, Jazmin Sanders and Ma'Kaila Lewis each with 10 points were the only other Lady Cavs to reach double figures.

With the win, LSU Eunice improves to 4-1 on the season, while the loss drops BPCC to 3-1. The Lady Cavaliers begin NJCAA Region XIV play on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they travel to Paris Junior College to take on the Lady Dragons.
